On April 3, 2018, Pamela Smith, a Fresno mother, testified in front of the California State Assembly, Public Safety Committee in support of AB 2467, new Fentanyl legislation written by Assemblyman Jim Patterson. Pamela had members of the Assembly Public Safety Committee in tears, as she explained how her son, Jackson Smith died from a Fentanyl poisoning on July 3, 2016. Unfortunately, the Public Safety Committee voted down the bill that would have added more prison time for Fentanyl drug dealers.
